Wilh. Steinberg Pianos: German-Made Grand and Upright Pianos
Wilh. Steinberg is a piano brand whose roots go back to 1877 in Eisenberg, in the German state of Thuringia. The brand makes grand and upright pianos in two series: the Signature Line and the Performance Line. Its evenly voiced, balanced sound appeals to professionals and music lovers alike.
What defines Wilh. Steinberg:
- Made in Thuringia: A careful building process combining around 6,000 parts.
- German actions: Renner on the Signature Line, Flemming on the Performance Line.
- Long life: Easy to tune and maintain; an instrument to enjoy playing for a lifetime.

The Signature Line is Wilh. Steinberg’s top series. Performance Line
With its powerful tone and balanced playing, the Performance Line covers a wide range of uses, from daily practice to chamber music. The P-152 is a compact grand for small rooms, the P-165 offers a fuller tone with a larger soundboard and longer bass strings, and the P-178 is a singing salon grand suited to chamber music. Among the uprights, the P-125 has the longest strings and the largest soundboard in the series.

The Wilh. Steinberg Story
The brand’s roots go back to the piano factory founded by Adolph Geyer in Eisenberg on 2 December 1877. Fuchs & Möhr, founded in the same town in 1921, won a state gold medal in 1925 and strengthened Eisenberg’s reputation in piano making. Nationalised in 1948, the factory was taken over by Helmut Altmeyer in 1993 after German reunification and named “Wilh. Steinberg”. Today the brand continues Eisenberg’s piano-making tradition.
