Frequently Asked Questions
What is the story of the Antunes harpsichord?
None of Antunes’s three surviving harpsichords was in playable condition. By restoring the 1758 instrument, Neupert contributed to the rediscovery of the early Portuguese harpsichord tradition; the construction details studied during the restoration formed the basis of the copy.
Which repertoire is the Antunes suited to?
According to Neupert, the sound of the Antunes has a character close to the sound imagined by Domenico Scarlatti, who spent much of his life in Portugal and Spain. It offers an authentic colour for the Baroque keyboard music of the Iberian Peninsula.
