Neupert Hass Harpsichord
The Neupert Hass is a concert harpsichord with a 16′ register, based on the 1734 double-manual harpsichord by the Hamburg master Hieronymus Albrecht Hass. The 16′ register on the lower manual adds a deep sound an octave lower, while the 4′ transmission allows the 4′ register to be used on both manuals.

Why is the 16′ register important?
Musicological research shows that Johann Sebastian Bach wanted a harpsichord with a 16′ register for chamber music. In line with this performance practice, Neupert developed a new 16′ harpsichord within the historical tradition and chose the harpsichord of Bach’s contemporary Hass as its model.
Can an echo effect be produced on the Hass?
Yes. A distinct echo effect can be achieved by playing the lower manual with all registers while using only the 8′ II register on the upper manual.
How does the Hass differ from the original?
Staying true to the essence of the original design, Neupert extended the compass to F1–f3, i.e. five octaves, and added an extra coupler that lets the 4′ register be played on both manuals.
